MOBILE, Ala. – With the University of South Alabama softball program set to open the season at home Thursday night against nationally-ranked Alabama, senior shortstop Kristian Foster visited to record this week's edition of "Inside JagNation."

The Pelham, Ala., resident is a preseason all-Sun Belt Conference selection this spring after earning second-team all-league honors a year ago when she batted .299 with eight extra-base hits and 38 runs batted in — all career-high totals — while helping the Jaguars go 35-20 overall.  In three seasons of competition, Foster has a career .275 batting average with 17 doubles, four home runs, 80 RBI and 48 runs scored, recording a .356 slugging percentage and .378 on-base percentage.

Over the last three years, she has been part of a program that has gone 108-51 overall including 48-22 in the Sun Belt, winning both the conference tournament and making an NCAA Regional appearance in 2015 to conclude her freshman year.

In this episode of the weekly podcast of the Jaguar Department of Athletics, Foster discusses the season opener, team and individual goals for her final year, what she has focused the most on improving going into her senior campaign and her thoughts on earning preseason all-SBC recognition.  She also talks about her expectations her first year on campus, how she earned a spot in the lineup that spring, what she needed to do to become a starter, the key to her success as a junior and her development as a leader within the program.  Foster explains when and why she started playing the sport, when she first thought of the possibility of playing at the collegiate level, who else recruited her and why she chose to come to USA, and her career plans after receiving her undergraduate degree from the school at the end of the current semester.
