The University of South Alabama men's tennis program added three newcomers to the roster for the spring season. One of the three newcomers is freshman Max Lapraille, from Ophain, Belgium. Lapraille spoke with USAJaguars.com about his path to South Alabama, who he models his game after and differences between the United States and Belgium.
Â
When and why did you start playing tennis?
"I started playing at five-years old with my dad. He got me started with the sport."
Â
Take me on your path to South Alabama.
"At first I applied to go to school here. Nick (Brochu) offered me a scholarship. I wanted to be here because the team was strong and the University was good."
Â
Who do you model your game after?
"David Goffin, I try to copy him."
Â
How would you describe your playing style?
"I'm a baseliner. I like to take the ball early and try to be aggressive. Now I try to go to the net more often."
Â
What are your biggest strengths and what are you trying to improve on the court?
"I have to work on my serve. I don't serve very well. I have to work on my first serve. I have good backhand, especially when I go down the line."
Â
What is your favorite thing about playing tennis?
"The competition, of course."
Â
What do you like to do outside of playing tennis?
"I like to play soccer. I played soccer in Belgium for many years. "
Â
What is different from Belgium to the United States?
"It has been different. I've played two matches here. The pressure and game are different. I think I am going to like."
What is different in lifestyle to this point from your home country?
"The food is different. The sizes are bigger. I think we eat healthier in Belgium, than here.
