MOBILE, Ala. – No. 18 Auburn scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning en route to a 7-6 win over No. 11 University of South Alabama baseball Tuesday at Stanky Field.

Auburn (9-0) faced a one-run deficit after seven frames, but rallied for four runs in the top-half of the eighth for the eventual game-winning runs.

South Alabama (7-2) will return to action this weekend when it travels to Lubbock, Texas, for a four-game series with No. 3 Texas Tech, beginning with game one Friday at 6:30 p.m.

GAME FACTS

- The Tigers doubled their lead in the top of the second on an RBI single to center field by Will Holland for a 2-0 advantage.
- USA threatened in the bottom of the third, but could not produce a run. Dylan Hardy tripled to the left-center gap with one out in the inning. Travis Swaggerty drew a two-out walk to put runners at the corners for Brendan Donovan, but AU left-hander Andrew Mitchell ended the threat with an inning-ending flyout to left field.
- Auburn extended its lead to three runs in the top of the fourth. Luke Jarvis reached on a two-out error, advanced to second on a single to center field by Steven Williams, and scored on an RBI single to left field by Brendan Venter.
- USA responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a one-run lead. Paul Russo singled down the left field line with two outs, and advanced to second on a single to left-center field by Swaggerty. A fielding error by AU left fielder Conor Davis allowed both runners to move into scoring position before a balk by Auburn left-hander Welby Malczewski scored Russo from third to cut the Tiger lead to 3-1. Wells Davis followed with an RBI single to left field to score Swaggerty and cut the AU lead to 3-2. A walk by Carter Perkins loaded the bases with two outs for Michael Sandle, who delivered a two-run single to center field for a 4-3 Jaguar lead.
- Auburn tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the eighth on a one-out RBI single down the left field line by Brett Wright. Jarvis delivered a three-run home run to left field later in the inning for a 7-4 Tiger lead.

QUOTES
Head Coach Mark Calvi

- On the game:
"We left too many men on base and we struck out too many times. We competed like crazy, but we didn't play a complete baseball game. You have to play a complete baseball game to beat a team like that, and we didn't tonight. It's unfortunate – we did not do enough to win that game. Credit to Auburn, they had a hand in that, but we could have done some things a little differently and played better in spots and maybe changed the outcome of that ballgame."

- On Chase Shell:
"Chase Shell was outstanding. I thought (Tyler) Perez deserved a little better fate early on. He probably should have given up just two runs instead of three through four against a good club. I thought Chase was outstanding."
