NEW ORLEANS – After recording a pair of double-doubles, University of South Alabama sophomore Josh Ajayi has been voted the Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

The El Monte, Calif. native averaged 21.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in two wins, and posted back-to-back double-doubles for the first time in his career. He also shot 60.0 percent from the floor, 42.9 percent from 3-point land and 81.8 percent at the free-throw line.

Ajayi is a first-time recipient of the award, and joins junior Rodrick Sikes, who claimed the honor on Jan. 2, on the winner's list. South Alabama has multiple players of the week for the first time since the 2012-13 season.

In USA's 60-57 win over Coastal Carolina, Ajayi posted 18 points and 12 rebounds and blocked two shots. In his next outing vs. Appalachian State, he scored 16 of his 24 points in the first half and added 11 rebounds. He shot 9 for 15 overall, and hit the tie-breaking shot with 44.0 seconds left in the contest.

Ajayi has five double-doubles on the year and ranks ninth in the Sun Belt in rebounding (6.7 rpg).
