NEW ORLEANS – After averaging over 26 points per game and leading the University of South Alabama men's basketball team to a 2-0 start in the league, junior Rodrick Sikes was voted the Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week Tuesday.

Also recognizing Sikes for his efforts is College Sports Madness, who tabbed him their player of the week.

Sikes is the first Jaguar to earn weekly honors from the league since Ken Williams in February 2015.

The Ocean Springs, Miss. native averaged 26.2 points over a four-game span as the Jags went 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. He shot 49.2 percent from the floor, 52.6 percent from 3-point territory, and 86.2 percent from the charity stripe.

Sikes scored a career-high 34 points on Dec. 21 at Tulane, the highest total by any USA player in over four years, on six 3-pointers, then became the first Jaguar to post back-to-back 30-point games since 1984 when he tallied a game-high 31 in the conference opener vs. Georgia State, thanks to six more triples.

On Sunday, he totaled 27 against Georgia Southern after shooting 5 for 10 from 3-point land and 8 for 9 from the free-throw line.

Sikes is currently fifth in the league in scoring at 18.4 points per game and second in 3s per game (3.2).
