MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama softball sophomore infielder Brittani Reid sat down with USAJaguars.com to discuss playing Division I softball with her sister, what impact she is hoping to make this season and her favorite musical artist, among other topics.
Reid comes to South Alabama after transferring with her older sister, Alexis, from Kansas where she was an infielder for the Jayhawks the last season where she appeared in 34 games and made nine starts. Reid registered two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI, while also drawing three walks and scoring seven runs scored. Prior to her time at KU, Reid was a four-year letterwinner at Blue Springs High School in Blue Springs, Mo., where she helped the Wildcats to four conference championships (2012-15), three district championships (2012, 2014-15) and a regional championship in 2015.
Besides wanting to continue to play college softball with your sister, why did you choose to come to South Alabama?
"I would just say new opportunities and being in a new environment. Along with playing with my sister, I'm able to have fun and still able to continue my softball career."
What is it like to play with your sister, Alexis, at the Division I level?
"If anybody can do it, I would tell them to because it's a great experience. If you are as close as me and my sister are, it's a really fun experience. I'm able to back her up, cheer her on and be with her."
How has your previous year of college helped you with the transition?
"I would definitely say that it's helped me a lot. College life is definitely faster paced and you have to get in where you fit in. You just have to stay positive and know your role because everyone has a role whether you're playing or not. You just need to be a good teammate and continue to be supportive."
What kind of an impact do you hope to make on the team this season?
"I hope to bring my good personality and just be a good teammate and be there for people if they need someone to pick them up. I also want to help out on the field in any way I can. I just want to support the team and do what's best in order for us to win."
What do you feel is a strength that you bring to the team?
"I think that I'm very out-going and supportive."
Along with your sister, are there any other teammates of yours who have bonded with so far?
"Coming into South, my sister and I already knew Haleigh Lowe from playing summer ball with the Birmingham Thunderbolts which was a good experience. We are really close with her, but honestly, I feel that I've bonded with everyone on the team."
What type of player can fans expect to see out of the field?
"They will see and aggressive, hard-working and supportive player. I'm also very talkative. They'll just see a lot of different things in me."
What are you majoring in at South Alabama and what do you plan to do after graduation?
"Right now I'm majoring in computer science. I'm interested in computer safety and just being able to putting in systems to keep the computer safe from hackers."
Do you have any pregame superstitions?
"Pregame I would say that my sister and I always listen to music and dance. That's what we've always done. We just act stupid and do funny stuff."
What is your favorite type of music to listen to?
"I like a pretty good variety, but I would say hip-hop and R&B."
Who would you say is your favorite musical artist?
"I'm in love with the Weeknd."
What's your favorite form of social media?
"I like to Snapchat."
How often would you say you are on Snapchat?
"I Snapchat pretty often. I wouldn't say all the time. I really just get on there to be nosey and see what other people are doing. Sometimes I might throw a snap up there. I wouldn't say that I'm on there all the time though."
What's the best advice you've ever been given and who gave it to you? Who gave it to you?
"Never let anybody make you feel like you're not good enough. My mom gave that advice to me."
