MEN'S BASKETBALL'S A.J. CALDWELL TO MISS REST OF 2017-18 SEASON

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama freshman A.J. Caldwell has undergone knee surgery and will be out for the remainder of the 2017-18 men's basketball season, head coach Matthew Graves announces Tuesday.

The freshman from Sarasota, Fla. has appeared in four games this season, but has been out since suffering the injury Dec. 2 at Florida International. He will be applying for a medical redshirt after the conclusion of the current campaign.

"We're disappointed that A.J. isn't going to be playing the rest of this year," Graves said. "He was performing at a good level in the preseason before breaking his nose. He was doing a great job coming back from that while wearing a mask, which is hard for a shooter.

"At the end of the day, I think this is a blessing in disguise. We'll seek a medical redshirt and he'll have the opportunity to be with us for another four years. I'm really excited to be coaching him for the foreseeable future."

In his four appearances, Caldwell scored four points and grabbed three rebounds.
