MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama volleyball team will travel to Montgomery, Ala., Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. match against Alabama State at Lockhart Gymnasium.
USA (2-3) enters the match having won two straight matches following wins over McNeese State and Southern Mississippi to close the Jaguar Invitational last weekend at Jag Gym. ASU (2-4) enters the match on a four-game losing skid after dropping all three matches at the North Harbour Marriott Invitational in Portland, Ore., last weekend following a loss at Auburn last Tuesday. The Hornets lead the SWAC in assists per set (10.17), kills per set (11.22) and attack percentage (.192).
Jaguar middle blocker Kelley Hartman leads the Sun Belt Conference in blocks per set (1.45) with 29 total blocks (4 BS-25 BA) in 20 sets played. Ashlyn Roberts ranks 10th in the league in service aces per set (0.35). Iva Durdanovic leads the team in kills per set (3.05) and kills (61), and Abby Baker leads the squad in digs per set (3.95).
South Alabama ranks second in the SBC in opponent hitting percentage (.176), and third in blocks per set (2.45) and service aces per set (1.65). USA holds a 24-3 all-time series lead over Alabama State. The Jaguars enter Tuesday's contest having won 17 straight matches in the series. USA's last loss to ASU came in 1985 in Montgomery. The Jaguars defeated the Hornets 3-1 in the last meeting between the schools, which came in 2015 in Mobile.
