WITH THREE IN TOP 20, SOUTH WOMEN’S GOLF TAKES FOURTH AT PIRATE COLLEGIATE CLASSIC

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The South Alabama women's golf team closed out the Pirate Collegiate Classic with a fourth-place finish and three student-athletes in the top 20 after putting up a team score of 289 (+1) during the final round. The 289 figure was the second-best of the 17 team field during the final round.
 
Junior Lexi Worrell and freshman Siti Shaari led the way for the Jaguars with each shooting a 223 (+7) for the tournament to finish in a tie for 15th. Each shot their best-score of the tournament during the final round with Shaari putting up a 70 (-2) and Worrell a 73 (+1).
 
Freshman Caroline Berge finished in a tie for 20th after scoring a 73 (+1) in the final round to go with her 79 (+7) and even-par 72 during the first two rounds.
 
Junior MacKenzie Peyton shot her best-round of the tournament on day two, putting up a figure of 73 (+1). Peyton led the team with five birdies during the final 18 holes.

TEE SHOTS
-Shaari pared 36 of the 54 holes to lead the Jaguars. The 36 pars were good for a tie for second for the tournament.
-Shaari bogied just one hole during the final round to go with three birdies.
-Peyton tallied a team-leading 11 birdies during the tournament.
-Peyton and Shaari each shot -3 on par fives.
-Freshman Julie Hovland was the only Jaguar to finish even on par three scoring.
-Hole 18 saw 85 birdies scored on it during the tournament, the most of any hole.

On the team improving day one to two and having three student-athletes in the top 20: "We played better today. We managed difficult situations well, and got all of the easy things right"
On Siti Shaari's improvement during the final round: "Siti played with a much better attitude today. She played with a lot of energy and that was the difference."
On what has made this team great and breaking and nearly-breaking records during the first two tournaments: This team simply has a higher skill set than any group that's ever been here. They are very skilled and eager to get better.
 
Up next: The Jaguars will compete at the Xavier Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla., Oct. 6-8.
