ERDMANN ANNOUNCES REORGANIZATION OF SOUTH ALABAMA ATHLETICS

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama Director of Athletics Dr. Joel Erdmann announced Wednesday a reorganization of the department including changes in both staff and office titles.

Daniel McCarthy has been promoted to Deputy Athletic Director, and in addition to the internal affairs duties he has been responsible for will now oversee the Athletic Business Office, while Jinni Frisbey and Travis Toth have been elevated to Senior Associate Athletic Directors for Student Enrichment and External Affairs, respectively.  Frisbey, who will continue to serve as the department's Senior Woman Administrator and Title IX Coordinator, will also add responsibilities with the Jaguars' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and Toth's expanded role includes oversight of ticket operations.

Additional changes include rebranding athletic media relations as strategic communications and ticket operations as fan experience.

"We have a department filled with talented and professional administrators and staff," said Erdmann.  "The purpose of this reorganization is to better align selected systems, which allows us to be more efficient and effective.  The three areas of emphasis are external relations — including revenue generation and fan experience — internal affairs and student-athlete enrichment."

McCarthy came to South in December 2008, working in compliance initially as an assistant director before being promoted to director and then assistant athletic director.  He was named Associate Athletic Director for Internal Affairs in the spring of 2015.

"Daniel has been functioning in a de facto manner as our number two individual for a while, this appointment formalizes his position as such," Erdmann stated.  "He will continue to oversee all internal operations of the department and have appropriate decision-making ability in my absence.  He is a bright administrator with strong analytical and problem solving skills complimented by the required communication and interpersonal skills."

Frisbey has been a member of the Jaguar athletic staff since 2007, when she joined as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.  Her role includes oversight of the department's sports medicine and strength and conditioning staffs while also working with USA's football program.

"Jinni has tremendous insight into the day-to-day and 'life' challenges facing our student-athletes, leading to her appointment which will oversee all physiological, psychological, social and related areas of their development," Erdmann said.  "She will also assume the key leadership role of supervising the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee."
After a dozen years in Mobile with the Double A Baybears organization, Toth joined the staff at USA in October 2008.  Originally brought on to serve as Associate AD for Marketing and Promotions, he added oversight of Jaguar Sports Properties in 2014 and was named Associate AD for External Affairs the following year.

Greg Keel is now Assistant Athletic Director for External Relations/Fan Experience, and in that role will oversee a staff that includes Senior Account Executive for Fan Experience Alex McCurdy, Account Executives for Fan Experience Tim Green and Britni House along with Assistant Director for Fan Experience Lloyd Meyers.

"Travis has provided strong leadership in the development of Jaguar Sports Properties, now our ticket operations will be under his supervision along with a greater focus on fan experience," said Erdmann.   "Greg Keel's duties will expand into oversight of our fans' game day experience, which will include access and egress along with in-game environment and entertainment."

As part of the restructuring, Brian Fremund will serve as Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications, with his staff including Associate Directors for Strategic Communications Kevin Beasley and Matt Horne and Assistant Director for Strategic Communications Charlie Nichols.

"When considering today's ever-changing world of sport media coverage and consumer behavior, it has become essential that our department take a greater and more strategic role in successfully communicating to and connecting with Baby Boomers, Generations X and Y, and Millennials," said Erdmann.
