MOBILE, Ala. – With the University of South Alabama soccer program beginning preseason practice on Wednesday, sophomore goalkeeper Justice Stanford sat down between workouts to record this week's installment of "Inside JagNation."
Stanford, who hails from The Colony, Texas, had a 14-4 record while posting a goals-against average of 0.78 and 10 shutouts in her first season at the collegiate level, helping the Jaguars win their third straight Sun Belt Conference regular-season and tournament championships while appearing in the NCAA Tournament. Her performance included a school-record 636:06 consecutive shutout minutes as she also set new season marks in the program's record books for goals-against average and fewest goals allowed (14). She led the league in goals-against average and shutouts, ranking among the top 40 in the country in both categories, and was named to the conference's all-tournament team after helping South record three clean sheets — the first time that happened at the event since 2012 — en route to the title.

In this episode of the weekly podcast of South Alabama Athletics, Stanford discusses the excitement of getting another season underway, if there is any pressure in preparation with the first of two exhibition matches less than a week after the start of preseason training, what she did over the summer and goals for the 2017 campaign. Other topics of the podcast include the team's approach to a non-conference schedule that includes Alabama, Auburn, Florida State and Mississippi State, whether defending the program's SBC championships creates additional pressure, and what is the key to her success on the field.
Stanford all explains her start in the sport and how she became a goalkeeper, the difference between playing high school and club soccer prior to coming to South Alabama, how she ended up becoming a member of the program and long-term goals both in soccer and professionally.
