MOBILE, Ala. – After making it to the finals of the Sun Belt Championships, the University of South Alabama women's tennis team will return to action Sept. 8 for their fall season.
"The main focus during all of the fall tournaments is to take what we have been working on during practice and try to execute it during match play," said USA head coach
Jaco Keyser. "With all the new players, it's a great opportunity to see how they respond to stressful match situations and learn more about their individual games."
The Jaguars will kick off the fall at the Thomasville Classic from Sept. 8-10. Last fall, junior
Alina Zolotareva (Barnaul, Russia) won the A draw finals.
Junior
Alexandria Stiteler (Bradenton, Fla.) will compete in the Oracle/ITA Masters held Sept. 21-24 in Malibu, Calif. and the ITA All American event will take place the following week. If any of the Jags qualify for the All American event, more information will be posted.
"The expectations are always the same regardless of the situation," Keyser said. "As an individual player or as team, we want to strive towards maximizing our potential on every given day."
In October, the Jags will compete three straight weekends. They start with the Bulldog Classic in Birmingham, Ala. from Oct. 6-8, then continue with the West Florida Classic Oct. 13-14. Rounding out the fall season is the ITA Regionals in Auburn, Ala. from Oct. 20-22.
"We always compete hard and try to win everything we do, but ultimately these tournaments are great opportunities to develop individual players and grow as a team as we work towards getting ready for our season," said Keyser. "Every chance we get out there during the fall, regardless if it's practice or tournaments, is a great opportunity to get better and potentially break through to a higher playing level."
