SOUTH’S REAVES NAMED TO SENIOR BOWL WATCH LIST

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama safety Jeremy Reaves continued to receive preseason recognition Thursday as the senior was named to the Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List.

Last month, Reaves was selected first-team all-Sun Belt by the league coaches for the second consecutive preseason while the 5-foot-11, 205-pound safety was also named to both the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award and Broko Nagurski Trophy Watch Lists, as well as preseason first-team all-conference accolades by five different publications during the offseason.

The senior from Pensacola, Fla., will look to become just the fourth South player to play in the Senior Bowl.  Last year, Gerald Everett joined former Jags Courtney Smith (2011) and B.J. Scott (2013) as past players to participate in the event.   Jake Johnson was chosen to play along with Scott in 2013, but was injured in practice the week of the game.

Reaves is among 37 safeties in consideration for the 2018 edition of the contest, which will be played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium — the Jags' home venue — on Jan. 27.  It will kick off at 1:30 p.m. (CST) and be broadcast once again on the NFL Network.  He is also one of 12 players from the Sun Belt Conference to be named to the preseason list.

Reaves was credited with 85 total tackles, with 5½ of those behind the line of scrimmage, and seven passes broken up to go along with three interceptions and a pair of forced fumbles as a junior.  The senior will begin his final year at the collegiate level among the top five in three different statistical categories on USA's all-time record list.  Reaves is tied for first with six forced fumbles, tied for second after intercepting five passes thus far in his career and he stands fifth with a total of 197 tackles.

Reaves and the Jaguars will open the 2017 schedule on Sept. 2 when they visit Mississippi, which is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. and aired on ESPNU.
