Senior Kellyn Reeves
- On what she wanted to improve on during the offseason:
"I really wanted to work on my outside setting. We've been working on a new tempo, and that's a hard thing to do for a setter and for hitters to be able to connect on that is very difficult. We worked a lot with our tempo this summer, and a faster tempo will help us beat the block. That is better all the way around for winning games. Last spring we decided that if we are going to beat bigger teams, then we have to have a faster tempo. We started this spring and worked on it all summer, and it will just continue to improve the more we are in the gym."
- On building off of last year's success:
"The vibe this year is completely different. Last year we had a different group; our seniors and our team was just different. This year the chemistry is off the wall; we're all pretty much good friends and that's a huge part of being successful in volleyball – having good chemistry. As a senior, these are the last memories I am going to have in volleyball, so being able to really call these people my best friends, win with them on the court and trust them on the court is a huge part of getting everyone on the same page and being successful this year."
- On the depth and experience at the setter position:
"It's such a good thing having three setters who all played last year, and all three of us will play this year. It's awesome, because we all three have different strengths as well as things we need to work on. When you put one of us with the starting lineup or team on the court, it just makes a world of difference. It's like an entirely new team with every different setter you put out there, because we each have different things we like to do and a different flow of how things go when we're on the court."
- On individual goals for her senior season:
"I said from the beginning that going into my last year that I just want to enjoy it, be stress-free and have a blast with it. With that comes good volleyball; I never play good volleyball when I'm stressed or worried. I think if I just keep it carefree, have fun with my team and just make really good memories – there's no reason for us to be losing in the first round of the (conference) tournament. We're too good of a team, and this just feels way different then it did last year."
Head coach Amy Hendrichovsky
- On the depth and experience returning at setter:
"Having three returners in the setting position makes a difference in the chemistry of our offense. It is advantageous for us this training camp to have three setters who are comfortable in our system. Even though they are competing for one or two spots, they have a healthy competition and support each other on and off the court."
- On how the returning setters improved during the offseason:
"All three have improved greatly since the beginning of the spring. Last fall we had the best attacking percentage for the program since the 1980's, and this fall we intend on improving that percentage and they will be a large part of that."
- On the strengths of the setters:
"Our setters each bring a different style of leadership to the team. All three have improved their confidence in their own role which is allowing them to feel more comfortable with anchoring our team."
