MOBILE, Ala. – Preparations for the 2017 University of South Alabama football team will get underway Sunday with the opening of preseason camp at the James A. and Frances H. Yance Football Practice Facility.
The Jaguars will work out seven straight days at the start of camp, with the first six practices slated to be held from 10 a.m.-noon (CDT) on campus. On Sunday and Monday, South will practice in only helmets while on the following two days the team will be permitted to wear shells for workouts. Thursday's session will be the first in full pads of the year, and after another practice on campus the Jags will close the first week of preseason camp with a 10:30 a.m. workout at Ladd-Peebles Stadium that is expected to last two hours and 15 minutes.
The following week will see the Jaguars practice on campus at 10 a.m. every day from Monday-Thursday, with the squad taking part in a team development exercise on Friday before the first scrimmage of the preseason. That will be held at Ladd-Peebles Stadium and will start at 4:45 p.m.
USA will be off on Wednesday the next week for the first day of fall classes, with another scrimmage at the stadium scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19.
All practices and scrimmages are open to the general public.
On Friday, Aug. 25 the team will participate in Fan Day, which this year will take place at 5 p.m. at the Shoppes at Bel Air located behind J.C. Penney.
The season will get underway at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2 when the Jags visit Mississippi in a game that can be seen live on ESPNU. USA was picked to finish fourth in the Sun Belt Conference this fall in a vote of league coaches released last week.
