“INSIDE JAGNATION” — SOUTH ALABAMA ATHLETICS PODCAST — EPISODE 47

MOBILE, Ala. – Ashlyn Roberts — a setter/defensive specialist on the University of South Alabama volleyball team — is the guest this week on "Inside JagNation," the official podcast of Jaguar Athletics.

In her first season with the program, Roberts recorded 536 assists, 162 digs and 22 service aces as the Jags posted a 16-14 overall record after qualifying for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.  That included 13 matches with 20-plus assists — highlighted by a career-best 29 in a 3-2 victory over McNeese State at Georgia's Bulldog Invitational — and five double-doubles.  Roberts finished with career highs with both 13 digs in a defeat of Florida A&M and five services aces in a win over Florida International at the Jaguar Invitational Labor Day weekend.

In the episode Roberts compares her schedule in the summer and the fall, what she and her teammates are working on during the offseason to prepare for the upcoming campaign, and the team's goals for the year.  A native of Sneads, Fla., she also talks about her interest in volleyball as a child, being coached by her mother, her memories of the recruiting process and why she chose to graduate from high school early to enroll at South in the spring of 2016.  Other topics in the podcast include making the transition from playing at the 1A high school level in Florida to college, her expectations when she arrived on campus and going into her freshman season, and how she is preparing for a professional career after she receives her degree from USA.
