LEXINGTON, Ky. - University of South Alabama track and field student-athletes Kaitlyn Beans and Lezyon Legarde closed out the Jaguars' competition in the NCAA East Region Preliminaries held at the Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Facility on Saturday.
After advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship each of the last three seasons in the women's triple jump, Beans missed the qualifying cut by three places, coming in 15th with a 12.89m mark.
"Kaitlyn was so close," track and field head coach Paul Brueske said. "She had an outstanding career here at South Alabama. We are very proud of all her accomplishments and will miss her."
The senior ends her career with two honorable-mention All-American accolades (2013, 2014) and second-team All-American honors after finishing 13th in the nation in 2016. Her performance this weekend marked her fourth-consecutive trip to the NCAA East Region Preliminaries.
Legarde finished the men's triple jump six spots better than his seeding, coming in 41st with a jump of 14.55m.
The Jaguars had one student-athlete qualify for the NCAA Championship over the weekend as pole vaulter Sean Collins placed fifth in the event on Friday. The sophomore will compete on the national stage in Eugene, Ore., June 7-10.
