FIVE JAGS EARN ALL-SBC HONORS

NEW ORLEANS – Five University of South Alabama baseball student-athletes were named all-Sun Belt Conference, the league office announced Monday.

Catcher Jared Barnes, shortstop Drew LaBounty and outfielder Travis Swaggerty were named first-team all-SBC, while first baseman Wells Davis and outfielder Dylan Hardy earned second-team all-conference honors.

Barnes led the SBC in slugging percentage (.768) and on-base percentage (.504) during league games, tied for the lead in home runs (10), second in total bases (73) and ranked third in batting average (.368) and RBI (32). His 13 home runs this season are the most by Jaguar since Ryne Jernigan's 16 in 2008.

LaBounty finished as the league leader in walks (45) for the second straight year, and finished the regular season ranked third nationally in walks per game (1.00) and 12th in walks. LaBounty enters the tournament with 144 career walks, and needs just two to tie former Jaguar Mike Mordecai (146) for second on the career list. It marked the second straight season LaBounty has been named first-team all-SBC.

Swaggerty finished the regular season  tied for the league lead in runs scored (52) and on-base percentage (.484), ranked second in batting average (.357) and RBI (55),  third in walks (44), fifth in slugging percentage (.571) and stolen bases (18), and tied for eighth in hits (70) and home runs (10).

Davis finished the regular season ranked third in the league in RBI (54), tied for fourth in sacrifice flies (4), fifth in home runs (12) and tied for ninth in slugging percentage (.536). He finished tied for the league lead in home runs (10) in SBC games, ranked third in slugging percentage (.684), fourth in runs scored (32) and eighth in on-base percentage (.447).

Hardy led the Sun Belt Conference in batting average (.387) and hits (48) in league games this season, and hit safely in his final seven conference contests including three consecutive multiple-hit performances against Troy.
