LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of South Alabama junior second baseman Kaleigh Todd was named third-team all-region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Thursday morning. Â
The all-region nod is the first of Todd's career and with her selection the Jaguars have now had a player named to one of the three teams each season since 2011.
The all-region awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions and are voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams. All the honorees will be eligible for selection to the 2017 NFCA Division I All-American squads, which will be announced at approximately 5 p.m. (EDT) on Wednesday, May 31, via NFCA.org.
Earlier this month, Todd earned First-Team all-Sun Belt Conference honors for the second-straight season. After earning preseason all-league honors, as well as honorable mention All-American accolades by FastPitch News, the Bessemer, Ala., native led the Jaguars in batting average, hits, runs scored, triples, on-base percentage and stolen bases.
Todd was one of two South Alabama players to start all 55 games where she just missed hitting .400 for the second-straight season as she finished with a .398 average. She is currently second in the SBC in batting average and hits (74), seventh in runs scored (43), third in triples (4), third in stolen bases (19) and 10th in on-base percentage (.454).
Todd also ranks among the NCAA leaders as she is tied for 20th in hits, while also sitting among the national leaders in batting average, triples per game, stolen bases and runs per game.
Over the final 37 games of the season, Todd had a hit in all but five of those contest and recorded multi-hits 18 times. Her 25 multi-hit outings this past spring led the club. She collected at least one hit in all but four Sun Belt games this season with multi-hit games on 13 occasions. Todd also reached base safely in 17-straight games during the season, recording a hit in 10 of those contests. Â
Todd recorded her first-ever home run – a inside the parker – in extra innings to help South pick up a 2-1 win at Louisiana-Monroe. She had season-high three hit efforts against Georgia Southern, Louisiana-Monroe and twice against Coastal Carolina.  Todd closed out the regular season by going 5-for-8 with four RBI in doubleheader sweep at Troy.
She ranks among the top 10 in program history in several categories; hits (second), triples (third), batting average (fourth), runs (tied-seventh), stolen bases (eighth) and on-base percentage (10th), while also setting junior single-season marks in batting average, hits and triples.
