ALLEN IS THIRD FORMER JAG TO SIGN NFL CONTRACT THIS MONTH

BALTIMORE – A third member of the 2016 University of South Alabama football team signed with a National Football League team this month after the Baltimore Ravens announced earlier in the week that the franchise has inked a deal with Randy Allen following a tryout.

Allen joins former teammates Gerald Everett and Josh Magee in the league, with the former a second-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Rams last month and the latter signed by the Atlanta Falcons.  The Falcons also offered a tryout to Roman Buchanan this month, with the Rams providing the same opportunity to Kalen Jackson.

After recording three tackles in his first three games as a Jaguar in 2015, Allen earned first-team all-Sun Belt Conference accolades and was a candidate for the league's Defensive Player-of-the-Year Award last fall following a season in which he led South with 19 tackles for loss and 12 sacks; both totals not only ranked among the top three in the Sun Belt and top 20 nationally, they set school season records as well.  The Sacramento, Calif., native finished with a total of 73 stops and three forced fumbles while adding two fumble recoveries, a pair of passes broken up and a blocked kick in helping the Jags earn an invitation to the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl.

Allen ended his two-year career at USA tied for second in sacks and seventh in tackles behind the line of scrimmage, also finishing among the top 10 in forced fumbles and fumble recoveries.
