NEW ORLEANS – No. 25 University of South Alabama baseball left-hander Andy Arguelles was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week and catcher Jared Barnes was named the SBC Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.

Arguelles tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings and allowed just four hits while striking out a career-high eight batters without issuing a walk in the Jaguars' 7-6 win at No. 10 LSU Tuesday in Baton Rouge, La. The left-hander retired 11 of the final 12 Tiger batters he faced in the game, and struck out six over that span.

Barnes batted .556 (10-for-18) with four doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI and four runs scored while posting a 1.278 slugging percentage and .524 on-base percentage in four games last week. He hit safely in all four contests, tallying multiple hits in each game, and drove in at least one run in each game including three multi-RBI performances. 

Barnes went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's win at No. 10 LSU, and finished 3-for-5 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored in the series opening win at Appalachian State. He capped the weekend with a three-hit performance in game two, along with a career-high five RBI and one run scored, and a two-hit day in the series finale along with five RBI and one run scored.

It marked the first time either Arguelles or Barnes has earned SBC weekly honors, and also marks the second time this season the Jaguars have swept the weekly awards after Brendan Donovan and Matt Peacock were honored on April 24.
