PEYTON NOTCHES TOP-10 FINISH TO CLOSE REGULAR SEASON AT MURRAY STATE

Final Results

MURRAY, Ky.
— University of South Alabama women's golfer MacKenzie Peyton posted her first top-10 finish of the spring, leading the Jaguars in the final round of the Jan Weaver Murray State Invitational, their final tournament of the regular season.

South Alabama (322-312-302— 936) improved its round scores by 10 strokes through each of the three rounds and placed fifth in the 10-team field at the Miller Memorial Golf Course. The host Murray State posted a three-round score of 893 to earn the Invitational title and best runner-up Western Kentucky by 24 strokes.

"We really didn't do anything much differently today," women's golf head coach Matt Luther said. "We had less wind, it was warmer and we had drier conditions for today's round."

Two Racers —Moa Folke and Linette Homslykke—  earned medalist honors individually, tying for first with a 222 tournament score.

After carding scores of 83 and 76 on Friday to tie for 25th, Peyton (83-76-72—231) recorded an even-par 72 and tied with four other individuals for 10th — the sophomore's first top-10 finish of the spring season and third this year.

"MacKenzie hit the ball better today," Luther said. "The biggest difference from yesterday for her was that putts fell for her today."

Two other Jaguars finished in the top 25, seniors Carianne Wright and Elisa Axelsen.

Wright (80-78-75—233) recorded her highest finish this season and second top-20 finish of the spring tying for 16th with three other individuals. The senior posted a three-round score of 233 after carding a 3-over-par 75, her lowest of the tournament, to climb the leaderboard from 23rd.

Axelsen (80-77-79—236) tied for 25th with Northern Kentucky's Sarah Kellam after recording a 7-over-par 79 to post a three round score of 236.

After a tournament score of 241, Lexie Worrell (80-81-80—241) posted an 8-over-par 80 on Saturday and tied for 35th with three other individuals. After withdrawing from the second round, Madison McConnell carded a 4-over-par 76 to assist her teammates in the third round. In her first tournament since February, the sophomore shot an 82 in the first round.

As South Alabama's regular spring season comes to a close, the Jaguars will now focus on the Sun Belt Conference Tournament less than two weeks away. The tournament will be held in Muscle Shoals, Ala., April 17-19 at the Robert Trent Jones' the Fighting Joe Course.
