First and Second Round ResultsĀ
MURRAY, Ky. ā University of South Alabama women's golf senior Elisa Axelsen climbed to tie for 17th through two rounds and led the Jaguars to shave 10 strokes off of their second round in Murray State's Jan Weaver Invitational.Ā
"The course played easier in the second round," head coach Matt Luther said. "We need to make better decisions all the way around (in the final round tomorrow). We made bad decisions after hitting the ball in trouble and that made things worse."
The Jaguars stand in sixth place after 36 holes on Friday with a team score of 634. South Alabama carded a 322 in the first round before improving by 10 strokes in the afternoon. The host Murray State leads the field posting a 596 score and leading second place Western Kentucky by 22 strokes.Ā
Axelsen started the 36-hole day at the Miller Memorial Golf Course, carding an 8-over-par 80 in the first round. Through the last 18 holes, Axelsen improved by three strokes, recording a 5-over-par 77.
Carianne Wright broke into the top 25 individually after carding a 6-over-par 78 in the second round, improving two strokes from her first round 80.Ā
MacKenzie Peyton shaved seven strokes off her first round score of 83, climbing from 42nd to a tie for 25th after a 4-over-par 76 in the second round.Ā
Lexi Worrell stands tied for 33rd with four other individuals after carding an 80 and 81 in the first and second round, respectively.Ā
After missing the last two tournaments, Madison Connell played the first round of the Invitational, carding a 10-over-par 82 before withdrawing from the afternoon round. She will play in the third round Saturday morning. Ā
The final round of the Jan Weaver Invitational will tee off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning.Ā
