Date: 4/5
Time: 3:10-5:10 p.m. (CDT)
Place: James A. and Frances H. Yance Football Practice Facility
Practice attire: Full pads
Offensive Player of the Day: Kawaan Baker, Fr., WR, Atlanta, Ga.
-Offensive coordinator Bryant Vincent on Baker: "Kawaan continues to grow each day. He has continued to clean up his technique, his fundamental route running, and his posture getting in and out of breaks. He is a big, physical presence who we are expecting a lot out of and is getting better every day. We were really pleased with him today."
Defensive Player of the Day: none
-Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack: "We didn't have an individual who deserved to be recognized today."
Play of the Day: During the team competition period, which had the offense running a four-minute drill, Jeremy Reaves broke through and stopped Deonta Moore behind the line of scrimmage on third-and-one to earn a win for the Jaguar defense.
Team period highlights: The first of two 10-minute periods saw the USA offense working on run and play-action pass calls against the defense, while the second featured four best-of-three competitions on third downs between the two units.
Miscellaneous Notes
-During the second team period the first-team offense moved the chains twice on three attempts on third-and-three on completions from Evan Orth to Maaseiah Francis and Andrew Reinkemeyer, but was stopped on all three third-and-five snaps as Reaves intercepted a pass and the duo of Tyree Turner and Zach Befort combined to tackle Xavier Johnson short of the line to gain.
-Blake Worthy recorded a sack and Sean Grayer had a tackle for no gain to help the second-team defense stop all three plays on third-and-three, but on third-and-five Cole Garvin hit Quinton Lane before an offside penalty helped the second-team offense claim the final competition.
-During the first team period Johnson twice broke through the line of scrimmage untouched for big gains, while Orth found Jordan McCray and Sam Harris for completions and Garvin and Sa'Mory Collier connected for a 20-yard gain.
-Chason Milner, Jeremiah Littles and Rocel McWilliams were credited with sacks during the same period.
-There were no skeleton passing drills during the two-hour workout.
-The special teams period focused on both punt coverage and punt returns.
-This was the Jags' final workout in full pads of the spring season.
Head coach Joey Jones
-On Wednesday's practice: "I thought the effort was good, but it probably wasn't the best practice we've had this spring. You could tell it was their 13th practice, but overall I have been pleased this spring. These kids have gotten better, you can tell by the way they approach every day that they really want to make something happen here. If they continue that then those things will happen."
-On what he has seen in specific position groups throughout the spring season: "You look and there has been a ton of improvement on the defensive line, those guys are playing with a lot better technique and effort than earlier in the spring; I think they have made the biggest jump and are a group we can always count on. Our receiver group has to step up, they have some talent but we are a little inexperienced there. You have to be consistent every day, that's what we are asking those guys to do."
-On where the Jaguars have made the most progress this spring: "I think our physicality has been the biggest stride we've made. Overall I think our guys are bigger and stronger up front, the defensive and offensive lines are playing better — they've had some great battles throughout the spring which have made us better on both sides of the line."
Up next: The Jaguars will work out in shells Friday at the James A. and Frances H. Yance Football Practice Facility prior to Saturday's annual iHeartRadio Red-Blue Game, which is set to kick off at Ladd-Peebles Stadium Saturday at noon
