War Eagle Invitational Live Results
AUBURN, Ala. - Twenty-four South Alabama track and field student athletes will travel to Auburn, Ala. for the War Eagle Invitational, the second meet hosted by the Tigers the Jaguars will compete in this season.
"Most of the team is off this weekend, we wanted to get in a solid week of training and a weekend recovery. We are taking a few athletes up that we felt needed a competition," head track and field coach Paul Brueske said.
The War Eagle Invitational will start with the men's hammer throw on Friday at 2 p.m. with three Jaguars - Thomas Boyd, Ethan Boyd and Jobi Finau - set to complete in the event. All three set personal bests in the hammer at the South Alabama Invitational last weekend.
Three Jaguar women throwers are also set to compete in the women's hammer at 4 p.m Friday. That trio includes Jessie Droogsma, Michaela Preachuk and Meagan Hall. Preachuk ranks third in the league after winning the event with a 57.58-meter throw while Droogsma and Hall set personal records last weekend in the event as well.
Laura Labuschaigne and Joanna McCoy will represent the Jaguar women on the track Friday in the women's 1,500m and 5,000m, respectively, while Warno Potgieter will run in the men's 1,500m that afternoon.
Megan James will come into the weekend tied for third in the Sun Belt rankings after clearing a personal-best 4.00-meter height last week in the women's pole vault. Savannah Howie, Caitlyn Dressler, Ireland Armstrong and Jordan Friz will also compete in the women's pole vault at 11:20 a.m. to open Saturday's events.
Matt Weinhold will compete in both the men's shot put and men's discus with Finau also participating in the latter. Three more Jaguar men will compete in the men's pole vault to close the field events for the men Saturday: Chris Taylor, Tyler Holenbeck and Niel Giliomee.
Jaguars competing in the running events will begin with Katleho Dyoyi in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 12:25 p.m. and end with Luke Fielding in the men's 5,000m at 4:45 p.m. Other South Alabama student-athletes competing in the running events on Saturday include Gillianne Sharp, Kailee Kiminski, Larry Lombard, Marina Swanepoel, Ben Rolader, Migael Strydom, Berron Tyson, and Preachuk.
