MOBILE, Ala. – Kaitlyn Beans — a member of the University of South Alabama track and field program who has earned All-America recognition in and out of competition over the last three years — is this week's guest on the "Inside JagNation," the official podcast of the Jaguar Athletics.
Beans, who hails from Montgomery, Ala., not only has set the school indoor and outdoor records in the women's triple jump as well as the best mark in program history in the indoor long jump, but has won five Sun Belt Conference individual titles while helping the Jags claim their first-ever outright outdoor women's team championship last spring. In addition to earning All-America honors in the triple jump at the NCAA outdoor Track and Field Championship each of the last three seasons, she was selected the SBC Most Outstanding Female Field Athlete of the Year after claiming both the triple and long jumps at the league's indoor meet in February.
On three occasions Beans has earned the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Award, has been named to the Sun Belt Commissioner's List following each of the last three academic years and in 2016 was inducted into the Mortar Board honor society.

Beans discusses making the transition from indoor to outdoor competitions, what she works on in practice to prepare for two events, and the differences between regular-season and postseason meets. The senior also discloses the goals she wrote down prior to the start of the season, how to make individual goals work for the team and how previous performances have affected those goals.
She talks about when and why she began participating in track at Brewbaker Technology Magnet High, when South Alabama head coach Paul Brueske invited her to campus for a recruiting visit and her other options before committing to the program. Beans discusses her hopes to continue her education after earning a degree in exercise science from USA this summer and what she would like to do professionally when she is done competing as well.
