NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama baseball left-hander Thomas Huston was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday, as announced by the league office.
Huston (4-1) tossed his second complete game of the season in a 4-1 series-clinching win over Louisiana-Monroe Saturday at Warhawk Field. The southpaw allowed one run on seven hits and struck out a career-high nine batters against one walk in a career-high nine innings pitched to earn his fourth win of the season.
It marks the first time Huston has earned SBC Pitcher-of-the-Week honors, and the second time this season a Jaguar hurler has earned the distinction after left-hander Zach Melton was named the league's pitcher of the week on Feb. 21.
In his last two starts, which came against Louisiana-Lafayette and ULM, Huston has allowed just one run with 15 strikeouts against three walks in 16 innings pitched.
