MOBILE, Ala. – Two-time Sun Belt Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week Devin Brown from the softball program is the guest this week on the official podcast of the University of South Alabama Department of Athletics, "Inside JagNation."
Brown enters this weekend's league-opening series at Georgia State — that Jaguars and Panthers will play a doubleheader Saturday at noon (CST) with the final game slated for 11 a.m. Sunday — with a 7-2 record, 0.75 earned-run average, three saves and 91 strikeouts in only 65.2 innings pitched. Opponents are batting just .155 against her as she has posted six shutouts in nine starts.
Her efforts have helped the Jags go 17-3 to start the season while receiving votes in both national polls throughout the spring.
The Mobile, Ala., native was an all-region and all-Sun Belt selection as a sophomore after posting a 20-12 mark with a 1.66 ERA and three saves while fanning 324 batters in 206.2 innings. For her career, the right-hander has the highest strikeout rate per seven innings (10.74) in school history and also ranks in the top five on the program's all-time list for lowest opposing batting average (.166, second), saves (8, tied for second), wins (39, fourth), ERA (1.85, fourth), strikeouts (598, fourth), and shutouts (19, fourth).

In the podcast, Brown explains how missing an NCAA Regional last spring has played a role in the Jaguars' start this season, how she prepares for a game when she knows she will start, and her key to success in the circle. She also discusses how working with former Jaguar All-American Hannah Campbell, including on pregame scouting reports as USA faces familiar opponents in conference action, has played a role in her accomplishments. In addition, Brown reveals how she became a pitcher while playing on travel teams as a child, her experience playing other sports at Theodore High and why she switched her major from physics to graphic design.
