NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama track and field's Kaitlyn Beans earned honors from the Sun Belt Conference as announced on Friday.
Beans was voted for the conference's women's indoor most outstanding field athlete of the year.
The senior earned two titles — in the women's long jump and triple jump — at the conference indoor championship. Beans' victory in the long jump with a 6.14-meter mark was a personal best for the senior and broke the South Alabama school record for the event; she was just .2 meters shy of the meet record. Beans added an additional gold medal in the women's triple jump, giving the Montgomery, Ala., native first-team all-Sun Belt honors with a 12.80-meter mark, the second consecutive year she has won the discipline.
"We're really proud of Kaitlyn," head coach Paul Brueske said. "She had a fantastic, basically flawless meet. She's very deserving and we are excited to see what she does heading into the outdoor season."
