STITELER VOTED SUN BELT WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama sophomore Alexandria Stiteler has been named the Sun Belt Conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

Stiteler wins the award for the fifth time in her career and the first in 2017. She is the third Jaguar to be named player of the week this season, after seniors Laura Matuskova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Monica Mitta (Fairhope, Ala.).

The Bradenton, Fla. native went 2-0 in both singles and doubles to lead the Jaguars to Sun Belt victories over Georgia Southern and Appalachian State. At No. 1 singles, she lost no more than three games in any set to win for the fifth time in six matches, and dropped a total of five games in two doubles matches on court 2.

In singles, Stiteler started the weekend with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Giulia Riepe of Georgia Southern, then downed Heidi Swope of App State 6-1, 6-3.

Stiteler paired with Mitta to improve to 7-0 on the season, defeating Georgia Southern 6-3 and App State 6-2, clinching the doubles point in the latter match.
