“INSIDE JAGNATION” — SOUTH ALABAMA ATHLETICS PODCAST — EPISODE 34

MOBILE, Ala. – Prior to the University of South Alabama baseball program's weekend series at Louisiana-Lafayette, shortstop Drew LaBounty visited to record this week's episode of "Inside JagNation," the official podcast of the Department of Athletics.

In the interview, the redshirt junior from Pensacola, Fla., discusses both the Jags' start overall and in Sun Belt Conference play — they are 15-10 with a 5-1 mark in the league — heading into Friday night's 6 p.m. (CDT) match-up with the Ragin' Cajuns as well as the team's current nine-game road trip that began Tuesday at Southern Mississippi.  He also talks about starting as a freshman during the 2014 season, having the following year end after 12 games due to injury and earning all-conference honors last spring.

Other topics in the podcast included his life in baseball, playing for his father at Pensacola Catholic High, the differences in the sport at the high school and collegiate levels, and his desire to remain in the game when he is done competing.

As South heads to Lafayette, La., for three contests, LaBounty has a .295 batting average with seven doubles and a home run, has driven in 15 runs while scoring 20, and has a .470 on-base percentage with 17 walks against just nine strikeouts.  After batting .237 as a freshman with 21 RBI and 22 runs scored, he was hitting .371 and had crossed the plate 12 times in 12 games before his 2015 season came to an end.  LaBounty returned a year ago and was voted first-team all-league after recording a .284 batting average with 12 doubles, two home runs, 43 RBI, 47 runs and 14 stolen bases, drawing 59 walks while fanning only 36 times.
