STOCKBRIDGE, Ga.
— South Alabama women's golfer MacKenzie Peyton closed the final round of the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate with a top-25 finish on Tuesday at the Eagle's Landing Country Club.

South Alabama (317-315-316—948) finished 13th in the 15-team field with a 948 tournament total, placing ahead of Sun Belt Conference member Louisiana-Monroe by four strokes.  Murray State and Eastern Kentucky tied with a three-round score of 888, but the Racers won a one-hole playoff over the Colonels to claim the team champion title.

Elsa Moberly of Eastern Kentucky held first place through three rounds as she broke par for the first time on Tuesday recording a 1-over par 73. Her 212-tournament total bested her teammate, runner up Sofie Levin, by six strokes to earn individual medalist honors.

All four of South Alabama's golfers posted a 5-over par 79 in the third and final round of the Panther's intercollegiate.

Peyton (74-75-79—228) tied with two other golfers — Madeline Marck-Sherk of Florida Gulf Coast and Sydney Snodgrass of UAB — to tie for 25th. The sophomore was tied for 12th through two rounds, but fell after posting a score of 79. Peyton teed off from the 13th hole and shot even par through five of the next six holes on the back nine. She carded her first bogey on the par-4, 380-yard 17th hole. After the turn, Peyton recorded five more bogeys in the round with the addition to a double bogey to put her 7-over par.

"Mackenzie had another solid tournament," head women's golf coach Matt Luther said. "She continues to grow and learn as a player. She struck the ball beautifully all week. She's been working hard to improve her putting and is making some adjustments now that will make a positive impact long term. she hit a lot of quality putts today that didn't go in. When those putts start falling, she will start to be in contention to win tournaments every week."

Carianne Wright (83-76-79—238) finished the Intercollegiate in a three-way tie for 52nd with Georgia State's Solene LeCoz and ULM's Michaela Osborn. The senior carded five bogeys throughout the round and a double bogey on the par-5, 464-yard hole. Wright had her only birdie of the day on the par-4,401-yard first hole to shave off a stroke on the front nine.

Lexie Worrell (76-85-79 —240) —who tied for 59th with Florida Gulf Coast's Alisa Clark— advanced two places after her 5-over par 79, a six-stroke improvement from her second round. The sophomore recorded six bogeys and a double bogey through the round, but sunk a birdie on the par-5 13th hole to end the day.

Axelsen (84-79-79—242) matched her second round score to round out the tournament and place 63rd in the field of 82-golfers. The senior carded seven bogies and a double bogey on the par-5 third hole, but recorded two consecutive birdies on the par-3 and par-4 fourth and fifth holes, respectively, to bring her to 5-over par for the round.

"The team struggled this week, but everyone showed a little of what they are capable of," Luther said. "We had some stretches of really good golf from all four players in the line up. We need to just continue to improve and expand those stretches. If we can do that, and do a better job of avoiding big mistakes, we will be able to have a strong finish at the Sun Belt Championship."

South Alabama will have one final regular season tournament before the Sun Belt Conference Championship April 17. The Jaguars will travel the Panther Intercollegiate winner Murray State for the Jan Weaver Murray State Invitational beginning April 7 in Murray, Ky.
