MEN’S TENNIS TOPPED 4-2 BY DARTMOUTH

NEW ORLEANS – The University of South Alabama No. 46 men's tennis team (17-5) fell 4-2 to Dartmouth (7-10) on Friday afternoon.

"It was very disappointing today," said South Alabama head coach Nick Brochu. "We froze on big points. The team is on a slump now. The team intensity at practice has been bad this past week, and we saw the results today. We need to work harder at practice if we want to stop it and get back to the level we had a month ago. We need to roll up our sleeves and go to work. It will start tomorrow morning early. We all need to step up at practice, from coaches to the last player. It's not how you start the season; it's how you finish it. We still have four big matches to change all that."

The Big Green claimed the doubles point by winning the last two matches completed.  Senior Juan Cruz Soria (San Juan, Argentina) and freshman Loic Cloes (Remicourt, Belgium) won 6-3 on court No.1 over Roko Glasnovic and Diego Pedraza. George Wall and David Horneffer defeated junior Olivier Gingras (Quebec City, Quebec, Candada) and freshman Clement Marzol (Toulouse, France) 7-5 on court No. 2, and Max Fliegner and Charlie Broom clinched the doubles point by topping senior Pierre Noyon (Oye-Plage, France) and senior Tuki Jacobs (Windhoek, Namibia) 7-5 on court No. 3.

Dartmouth got the first singles point when Eddie Grabill beat sophomore Lucas Gonzalez (Chateauroux, France) 6-1, 6-4 on court No. 6.  South Alabama tied the match up when Cloes beat Fliegner 6-4, 6-0 on court No. 3 and Marzol won 6-3, 6-3 on court No. 4 against Horneffer.

Broom beat No. 111 Soria 7-6, 6-3 on court No. 2, and Wall clinched the match for the Big Green with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Noyon on court No. 5.  No. 94 Jacobs was in a third set (4-6, 6-3, 1-4) against Riccardi on court No. 1.

The Jags return to the courts next Wednesday and will host intrastate and Sun Belt Conference foe Troy next Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. on senior day.
