JAGUAR GOLF RETURNS TO ACTION SUNDAY AT SEAHAWK INTERCOLLEGIATE

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The University of South Alabama men's golf team will wrap up more than a week on the road at the Seahawk Intercollegiate, which will be hosted by UNC-Wilmington on Sunday and Monday at the par-72, 7,036-yard Country Club of Landfall.

Action will include 36 holes set to get underway with an 8 a.m. (CDT) shotgun start the opening day of the tournament, with the final round on Monday starting from split tees at 7 a.m.

"I hope our guys come out and play well again," said Jaguar head coach Alex Hamilton.  "They have been excited to play some good golf courses in the area and see a different style of course than we normally see, and it has been a good experience for them to spend time and practice together and work on their games for an extended period of time on Spring Break.  We're excited to get up there and compete."

Kent State — ranked 11th in the Golfstat ratings released on Wednesday — and North Carolina, which is one spot out of the top 25 nationally, headline a field of 12 schools that also includes Akron, Army, Campbell, Cleveland State, Davidson, Rhode Island, Richmond and Rutgers.

The Jaguars began Spring Break by placing ninth in a field of 15 teams at Coastal Carolina's General Hackler Championship, which was cut to 36 holes after rain cancelled the final round, and were led individually by Jason Mendel's 1-under-par 143 36-hole score.  He now paces the team with nine rounds at or below par and has a 73.63 stroke average after posting his fourth top-20 result of the season.

Rasmus Karlsson has a team-best 73.18 scoring average after the freshman carded scores of 74 in both rounds last time out.  He comes into UNC-Wilmington's event with four top-10 performances and the Jags' lowest 54-hole total following a 6-under-par 210 the opening week of the month at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn.

Brooks Rabren and Sylas Elliott enter the weekend with 73.44 and 73.50 scoring averages, respectively.  The former has finished among the top 20 in the individual standings in two of three events he has played in this year, while the latter is tied for second on the squad with seven scores of par or better.  Drew Cooke will round out the USA lineup with a 74.79 figure that includes six rounds at or below par, with Peter Staalbo — who has a stroke average of 73.47 — competing as an individual in the tournament.

"At Coastal Carolina Jason played extremely well and Rasmus was pretty solid, but the rest of the guys had things they needed to work on," Hamilton said.  "Hopefully what we worked on these past few days individually with their games will show up in Wilmington and we can have a good week from six guys."

This will be the Jags' first appearance in the Tar Heel State since concluding the Fall 2015 season at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate hosted by UNC-Greensboro.
