NEW ORLEANS – After compiling four combined wins in singles and doubles, University of South Alabama senior
Monica Mitta has been voted the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Friday.
The Fairhope, Ala. native claims the award for the third time in her career, and first since 2015.
Mitta posted two wins each in singles and doubles, playing at Nos. 3 and 2, respectively. Both of her singles victories came in straight sets, and she lost no more than two games in three of the four sets played.
She defeated
Nadja Manjon of Louisiana Tech 6-2, 6-2, then followed that up with a 6-1, 7-5 win over
Rikeetha Pereira of Southern Miss.
In doubles, Mitta lost a total of one game in two matches with partner
Alexandria Stiteler (Bradenton, Fla.). They downed Angela Lorenzo and
Jill van den Dungen from Louisiana Tech 6-1, then blanked
Elena Roca and Pereira from Southern Miss 6-0.
Mitta is 6-4 in singles this spring playing in the top three spots in the lineup. She is 8-1 in doubles on courts 2 and 3, including 4-0 with Stiteler.
The Jaguars are in the Sunshine State this weekend, taking on Central Florida on Friday and North Florida on Sunday.
