MEN’S TENNIS’ JUAN CRUZ SORIA NAMED SBC CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NEW ORLEANS – The University of South Alabama's Juan Cruz Soria has been named Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Co-Player of the Week with Georgia State's Zack Kennedy as announced by the conference on Wednesday.  The Jaguars have won or shared the first four player of the week honors by the conference to start the spring season, with Soria garnering the selection the first two weeks and Tuki Jacobs getting the weekly award last week.

This is the first time South Alabama has been awarded the weekly honor for four-straight weeks since two-time ITA All-American Franticek Babej did so from March 30th-Apr. 20th in 2005.

Juan Cruz Soria helped South Alabama to two wins in Birmingham, Ala. over the weekend by winning both of his singles matches on court No. 1 in straight sets and splitting two matches with partner Loic Cloes on court No. 1 in doubles.  Soria defeated Justin Ghavami 7-5, 6-2 that clinched the 4-0 sweep of Samford.  Against UAB he and Cloes won 6-4 in doubles, and then he beat Eric Komati 6-3, 7-5.

The Jags return to the court this week with the HEB Invitational in Corpus-Christi, Texas that begins on Friday and ends on Saturday.
