MEN’S TENNIS SWEEPS SAMFORD 4-0 ON THE ROAD

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of South Alabama No. 28 men's tennis team (11-2) defeated Samford (2-7) 4-0 on Friday afternoon.  The Jaguars have now won 10-straight matches for the fourth-largest winning streak in program history.

"We got the win today but we got too relaxed at some positions," said South Alabama head coach Nick Brochu. "We have to play every day like it's the most important match of the season. We will meet tonight to go over the standards that we set during the first half of the season and make sure we are ready for tomorrow."

The Jags claimed the doubles points with wins in the last two matches completed.  Sophomore Lucas Gonzalez (Chateauroux, France) and senior Pierre Noyon (Oye-Plage, France) defeated Hugo Moreira and Curran Verma 6-4 on court No. 3, and junior Oliver Gingras (Quebec City, Quebec, Canada) and senior Tuki Jacobs (Windhoek, Namibia) clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Justin Ghavami and Max Rebol on court No. 2.  Senior Juan Cruz Soria (San Juan, Argentina) and freshman Loic Cloes (Remicourt, Belgium) fell 6-4 to Jake Faundez and Eduardo Lourido Sanchez on court No. 1.

Cloes got the first singles point for South Alabama, beating Rebol 6-1, 6-3 on court No. 4.  Gonzalez then defeated Verma 6-3, 6-1 on court No. 5.  Soria clinched the Jags' win, topping Ghavami 7-5, 6-2 on court No. 1.

In uncompleted matches Noyon was up 6-1, 5-5 over Moreira on court No. 6. Gingras was down 6-7 (5), 2-0 to Sanchez on court No. 3, and Jacobs was in a third set (6-3, 3-6, 0-0) with Faundez on court No. 2.

The Jaguars will stay in Birmingham and face UAB on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
