MEN’S TENNIS’ TUKI JACOBS NAMED SBC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NEW ORLEANS – The University of South Alabama's Tuki Jacobs has been named Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Wednesday.  The Jaguars have won the first three player of the week honors by the conference to start the spring season, with Juan Cruz Soria garnering the selection the previous two weeks.

This is the first time South Alabama has been awarded the weekly honor for three-straight weeks since two-time Sun Belt Player the Year Daniel Leitner did so in 2015 from March 25th-April 8th.

Jacobs, positioned at No. 85 in the men's national singles' rankings released on Tuesday, helped South Alabama to win all but three points in a 3-0 week, making it nine-straight victories for the Jaguars in the longest match win streak since the 1995 team started the season 9-0.  Jacobs won all three singles matches on court No. 1.  The only set he dropped was against No. 64 Jack Findel-Hawkins of North Florida, which also clinched the victory against the Ospreys and helped the Jags end a six-match losing streak against them, including five in the past five years.  Also he was 2-1 in doubles, and both wins clinched the doubles point.

South Alabama returns to action on Friday with a road match against Samford at 2:00 p.m.
