AUSTIN, Texas – University of South Alabama senior
Tiina Trutsi has been named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-America ® for Women's Soccer, the organization announced Thursday.
The Tallinn, Estonia native is the second USA women's soccer student-athlete to earn that achievement, joining
Clarissa Hernandez (2013) in the exclusive club, but the first to earn first-team honors.
This season, Trutsi was tied for third on the team in goals (4) and tied for second in points (12). She was 3 for 3 from the penalty spot, and recorded a three-game goal streak.
She recorded the game-winning goal and an assist at Georgia Southern, and assisted the game-winning goal in double overtime at Troy.
Trutsi was a key member on teams that won both the Sun Belt regular season and tournament championships in each of her four seasons at South Alabama, including the program's first NCAA Tournament victory in 2015.
In the classroom, she has a 4.00 grade point average majoring in sociology. She has twice been a member of the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List, for those with a 3.5 or higher GPA.
