NEW CASTLE, Ind. – University of South Alabama men's basketball head coach Matthew Graves and former Jaguar Toby Madison have been selected to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame's 2018 Silver Anniversary Team for their high school accomplishments during the 1992-93 season.
Graves played at White River Valley High School in Switz City, and Madison attended Washington Catholic High School in Washington.
A 1993 Indiana All-Star, Graves was named first team all-state by the
Associated Press and the
Bloomington Herald Times, and second team all-state by
United Press International. He led White River Valley to a 70-8 record during his four seasons, and scored 1,800 points, with a 20.5 point-per-game average as a junior and a 20.0 average as a senior.
At Butler, he graduated second in school history in 3-point field goals (175) and third in free-throw percentage (84.6%), while scoring 994 points. He led the Midwestern Collegiate Conference in free-throw percentage his senior year, and was named to the MCC All-Tournament Team.
"I am very humble and appreciative to be selected to the Silver Anniversary Team," Graves said. "I have been very fortunate throughout my career to be surrounded by great teammates and coaches who have helped make this honor possible."
Madison was also a 1993 Indiana All-Star and was tabbed first team all-State by the
Herald-Times, and second team by the AP and UPI. A two-time Tri-State Player of the Year, he scored 1,637 points and averaged 18.8 points per contest in his career, including 29.9 ppg as a senior.
After starting his collegiate career at Evansville, he eventually made his way to South Alabama where he was named the 1998 Sun Belt Conference Male Athlete of the Year, First Team all-Sun Belt and Sun Belt Tournament MVP. He averaged 15.4 points as a senior, guiding the Jaguars to their second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
"It is an incredible honor to be named to this team alongside some of the best players in the State of Indiana," Madison said. "I grew up loving the game of basketball and I spent a lot of time playing and working hard to become the best player I could. This recognition really has allowed me to reminisce on the many memorable moments I had growing up in my small town and community. I am forever grateful for all of the great coaches I had as a young player in grade school, middle school, and high school. In addition, I am even more appreciative for all of the teammates and friends that I grew up playing alongside. Lastly, the basketball player I became was a direct result of my two older brothers and parents who fostered my love and passion for the game and supported me every single step of the way."
They are joined on the team by Chad Austin, Ryan Bond, Tyson Brit, Noy Castillo, Jim Cruse, BJ Flynn, Scott George, Jason Holmes, Jeff Layden, Pete Miller, Kelsey Mucker, Burt Paddock, Chris Quinn, Scott Rolen, Randy Zachary and Sherron Wilkerson.
The team members will be honored at a banquet on March 21, 2018 at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
