MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama volleyball program signed three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2018-19 academic year, as announced Thursday by head coach Amy Hendrichovsky.

"We were a fairly young team this season and graduated only three seniors," Hendrichovsky said. "While it is always difficult to replace the presence and leadership of those departing the program, we feel from an athletic standpoint these student-athletes should be able to help fill the void. Furthermore, all three of these young ladies understand the expectations academically and will be driven to be successful academically and athletically."

Kaira Hunnicutt – 6-0 – Middle Blocker – DeSoto HS – DeSoto, Texas
Earned four letters at DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas … Named District 7-6A Blocker of the Year the last two seasons … Also named 7-6A first-team all-district the last two years … Recorded 478 kills and 340 total blocks in her career … Played for Blocksport Volleyball Club.

Hendrichovsky on Hunnicutt:  "Kaira is a dynamic and explosive athlete. We are excited to add her athleticism to our gym and watch her grow into a physical threat in the Sun Belt Conference. She will bring more depth to a position that we are already very confident in. We look forward to her having an impact on our team much like the two freshman middles we had this past season."

Rachael DeMarcus – 5-10 – Setter – Bryan Station HS – Lexington, Ky.
Named the 2017 Region 11 Player of the Year and earned first-team all-state honors from the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association … Helped BSHS to a 29-8 record in 2017 … Named first-team Lexington all-city by the Lexington Herald Leader in 2016 as a junior at BSHS … Holds the career assists record at BSHS … Earned Lexington all-city honorable mention as a freshman at Lexington Christian Academy in 2014 … Helped KIVA 17 Red to a runner-up finish at the 2017 AAU Open National Championships.

Hendrichovsky on DeMarcus:  "Rachael has a tough, gritty mentality and beautiful hands to go along with it. We look forward to her work ethic, mindset and high level of IQ rubbing off on our team. She has found a lot of success in the club volleyball and high school arena, and we look forward to her continuing that trend of success at the collegiate level."

Veronica Dollar – 5-6 – Libero / Defensive Specialist – Trinity HS – Euless, Texas
Earned four letters at Trinity High School in Euless, Texas … Holds the school single-game record for digs (50) … Also competed with Texas Image Volleyball Club out of Grand Prairie, Texas, for four years … Father, Tim, played soccer at Sam Houston State … Mother, Adriana, played volleyball at UTA.

Hendrichovsky on Dollar:  "Veronica has been brought up in the game of volleyball considering her mother was a collegiate athlete who played Division 1 volleyball as well as a coach in the junior volleyball ranks. We look forward to her bringing the knowledge only a player who has been around the game her whole life can bring to a team along with her technical skill. I had the opportunity to work with Veronica at camp this summer and was impressed with her level of skill, and feel she will be a great addition to our team."
