NEW ORLEANS – After a four-goal weekend, University of South Alabama senior
Rio Hardy has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
The Workington, England native is now a two-time winner of the award, and joins senior
Tiina Trutsi and sophomore
Kory Dixon as offensive POTW recipients this season.
Hardy scored a brace each in the Jaguars' victories over Georgia Southern (4-0) and Troy (2-1 2OT), including the game winner in double overtime on Sunday against the Trojans. She put the Georgia Southern game out of reach in the second half with her sixth career two-goal performance, then answered a Trojan goal with one of her own just two minutes later, and notched the game winner at the 104:02 mark.
She increased her season goal total to a team-leading eight and helped USA remain undefeated in the conference at 5-0 and improve to 7-4-1 overall.
Hardy is now tied for second in school history with 11 game-winning goals and 35 goals in her career, and is fourth in career points (83). She leads the Sun Belt in goals per game (0.67) and is second in points per contest (1.42).
