MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama volleyball team will face Troy in a pair of Sun Belt Conference matches this week.
USA (9-5, 4-0 SBC) will host Troy (6-12, 1-3 SBC) Wed., Oct. 4, at 6 p.m. in Jag Gym. The match will be streamed live and available for free through JagNationTV.com, and live stats will be provided through the multimedia section at USAJaguars.com. In-game updates will also be provided through the Jaguar volleyball Twitter account (@USA_Jags_VB).
The schools will meet again on Sat., Oct. 7, at 4 p.m. at Trojan Arena in Troy, Ala. The match will be broadcast live by ESPN3 and available at WatchESPN.com, while live stats will also be provided through the multimedia section of USAJaguars.com.
South Alabama enters the week with the best overall record in the SBC, and sits atop the SBC East Division standings as the only remaining unbeaten team in the division. The Jaguars defeated Georgia State in four sets Friday before sweeping Georgia Southern in straight sets Saturday evening in Mobile.
USA leads the SBC in blocks per set (2.65), which ranks 29th nationally, and opponent hitting percentage (.163), and ranks fourth in the league in service aces per set (1.29). In SBC matches, South Alabama leads the conference in hitting percentage (.248) and blocks per set (3.14), ranks second in digs per set (17.43) and ranks third in kills per set (13.43) and opponent hitting percentage (.144).
Kelley Hartman leads the league in blocks per set (1.42), which ranks 27th nationally, and ranks 10th in hitting percentage (.312). Abby Baker ranks fourth in the conference in digs per set (4.49).
Troy defeated Georgia State in five sets Saturday in Troy to earn its first SBC win of the season and snap a five-game losing streak following a straight-sets loss to Georgia Southern on Friday. The Trojans are winless on the road this season at 0-6. Troy's Logan Page ranks second in the SBC in hitting percentage (.371), while Kiara Barrett ranks tied for fourth in the league in service aces per set (0.33).
South Alabama holds a 41-27 all-time lead over Troy in a series that began in 1998. The schools have split a pair of matches the last three seasons. The home team has won the matchup the last two seasons in the series.
