NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama volleyball's Meaghan Jones was named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
Jones averaged 2.17 kills per set, and posted a .480 hitting percentage in wins over Georgia Southern and Georgia State last weekend. She tied her career high with six kills along with a .417 hitting percentage and four block assists in Friday's win at Georgia Southern. Jones then set career highs in kills (7) and hitting percentage (.538) along with three block assists in Saturday's win at Georgia State.
Jones is the first Jaguar to earn weekly player-of-the-week honors from the league office this season, and the first Jag to be named SBC Freshman of the Week since Iva Durdanovic earned the honor on Sept. 19 last year.
Jones enters the week averaging 1.47 kills per set, along with two service aces, three digs and eight block assists in 17 sets played this season. South Alabama enters the week with the best record in conference play as the lone unbeaten team in the SBC.
Coastal Carolina's Leah Hardeman was named the SBC Offensive Player of the Week, while CCU's Sydney Alvis earned SBC Defensive Player of the Week accolades. CCU setter Sara Boothe was named the league's setter of the week.
