PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of South Alabama women's tennis team went undefeated in the first round of singles Friday at the UWF Fall Fling Invitational at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
 
SINGLES:
-Patricia Martins dropped Katia De Lagoraza of West Florida 6-4, 6-2, Maxine Palmen defeated Alcorn State's Bianca Birkenstock 6-3, 6-1, and Alina Zolotareva won 7-5, 6-0 over Sanja Jolic of Lamar in flight 1 of the first round of singles competition.
-Kohoutova bested LU's Keala DiGuilio 6-1, 6-2, and Leslie Soto downed Natalia Molina of Lamar 7-6, 2-6, (10-1) in the first round of flight 2 singles.
-In the second round of singles, Kohoutova won 6-4, 1-6, (10-4) over West Florida's Heather Mixon, Soto defeated Alabama State's Mirna Curcic 7-6, 6-2, and Yu Fujioka fell to Chole Kabamba of Alabama State 6-2, 6-4 in flight 2.
-Palmen rallied to defeat her opponent 6-7, 7-6, (10-6), Martins fell 6-2, 0-6, (10-8) to Reka Szentes of Alabama State, and Zolotareva lost 6-2, 6-2 to West Florida's Jordana Lujan in the second round of singles in flight 1.
 
DOUBLES:
-In the first round of doubles, Martins and Kohoutova beat Anita Bozhko and Amelie Vossgaetter of Lamar 6-3, and Palmen and Soto fell 7-5 to Fleur Holtkamp and Ceci Mercier of Southeastern Louisiana.
-Fujioka and Zolotareva defeated an Alcorn State team 6-2 and Martins and Kohoutova dropped Szentes and Kabamba 6-3 in round 2 of doubles.
-In consolation play, Soto and Palmen lost 6-4 to Lamar's Jolic and Jasmin Buchta.
 
NOTES
-Kohoutova and Palmen improved to 5-1 in singles, and Soto and Zolotareva earned their first singles victories this fall.
-Soto, Kohoutova, and Palmen advanced to the semifinals of their draws.
-The Jaguars return to action Saturday at 8 a.m.
