BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The South Alabama men's tennis team lost just two of nine matchups on day two at the Samford Invitational on Saturday.
 
SINGLES
-Clement Marzol defeated Alabama's Alexey Nesterov 6-3, 7-5, while Loic Cloes dominated Giovanni Pasini of UAB 6-1, 6-1.
-UAB's Brian Akhtar defeated Nathan Fruh 7-5, 6-2.
-Lucas Gonzalez defeated Tom el Safadi of UAB in a tightly contested three-set battle 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
-Olivier Gingras took down Grant Stuckey of Alabama 6-1, 6-3.
-Santiago Di Loreto defeated UAB's Marlon Goering 6-4, 6-3.
 
DOUBLES
-Cloes and Marzol defeated Samford's Jake Faudez and Eduardo Lourido of Alabama 7-5.
-Gingras and Fruh took down Justin Ghavami and Aleks Petrovic, 6-2, while Gonzalez and Di Loreto fell in  tightly contested match, 7-6, to Max Rebol and Hugo Moreia of Samford.
 
NOTES
-Gingras and Fruh picked up their first doubles win of the fall.

On the day two: "The best thing about today is it was better than yesterday. A coach loves to see improvement from day-to-day and that's what I saw today. We played aggressive and we cut down on mistakes. Matches got very close in doubles, but I was happy to see us not panic in those types of situations."
 
UP NEXT
The Jaguars will compete in the final day of the Samford Invitational on Sunday. Action begins at 9 a.m.
