MOBILE, Ala. – As the University of South Alabama men's golf team prepares for its final event of the fall semester, a home tournament at the Steelwood Country Club the last weekend of October, "Inside JagNation" sat down with senior Sylas Elliott to record this week's episode of the weekly podcast of Jaguar Athletics.

Elliott — who hails from Cullman, Ala. — has posted the Jags' lowest 54-hole score in each of the first three events this season and is carrying a team-best 71.89 stroke average into the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, which is set to be played Oct. 28-29.  His 5-under-par 66 in the opening round of the campaign at Southern Mississippi's Sam Hall Intercollegiate is the lowest 18-hole total recorded by a Jaguar this fall, helping him end the tourney tied for 12th in the individual standings, and he followed up with top-25 results at events hosted by Alabama-Birmingham and Alabama.

In his first season with the program, Elliott had a scoring average of 73.50 and three top-20 finishes while shooting par or better in seven of 22 rounds.

In this week's edition of "Inside JagNation" Elliott explains what has been a key factor in his play this fall, what his approach on the course is when he knows he is scoring well in a round, his schedule on the day of a tournament and his approach to practice.  He also discusses what Atlantic Coast Conference school he chose South over when transferring from Wallace State (Ala.) C.C., his expectations going into last fall and how his experience at his first NCAA Division I tournament affected him.  Other topics of the podcast include Elliott's thoughts when his junior year was cut short due to a back injury, what was required to be able to play this season and what he believes he needs to do to compete at the professional level after the conclusion of his Jaguar career.
