“INSIDE JAGNATION” — SOUTH ALABAMA ATHLETICS PODCAST — EPISODE 26

MOBILE, Ala. – Following his appearance in the Senior Bowl — where he helped the South team to a 16-15 victory — former University of South Alabama tight end Gerald Everett visited with the official podcast of Jaguar Athletics, "Inside JagNation."

In the episode, the two-time first-team all-Sun Belt Conference selection discussed how he prepared for the all-star game, the experience of competing in the Senior Bowl and his plans for the next couple of months as he gets ready for the National Football League Draft the final week of April.

A semifinalist for the John Mackey Award presented to the top tight end in the nation, the Lithonia, Ga., native tied for the team lead with 49 receptions as a senior while finishing with 717 yards and four touchdowns last fall.  He ranked among the top 10 tight ends in the country and all players in the Sun Belt in both catches and receiving yards per game while helping the Jaguars play in a postseason bowl game for the second time in three seasons after facing Air Force in the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl.  Everett became the first individual in program history to record 100 or more yards receiving in back-to-back contests after posting 103 on five catches in a 42-24 victory over San Diego State — South's first win ever over a nationally-ranked opponent — and 125 at Arkansas State.

He also played a key role in the Jags' first-ever defeat of a Southeastern Conference school, catching a career-high-tying eight balls for 95 yards in a 21-20 win at Mississippi State to open the 2016 campaign; that included a four-yard touchdown reception with 57 seconds to go to provide the game-winning points.  After the victory, Everett was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week.

Following two seasons with the program, Everett concluded his career among the top five in six statistical categories in USA's record books.  He currently stands fifth all-time with 90 catches for 1,212 yards, an average of 14.36 yards per reception and 16 total touchdowns scored.  Everett also ranks third with 12 touchdown catches and three 100-yard receiving games, tied for seventh with 96 points and is 10th with 1,299 all-purpose yards.
