MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama men's tennis team will begin their spring schedule in Tallahassee, Fla. this weekend at the Florida State Invitational.
The Jaguars begin play Saturday at 9 a.m. against Florida Atlantic. The two teams met last spring, and the Jags came away with a 6-1 victory over FAU. South Alabama will face the host Florida State or Sun Belt member Louisiana-Lafayette at 2:00 p.m. later in the day.
Other teams attending the FSU Invitational include Mercer, Troy, Florida A&M, and Georgia State, two of which are fellow conference teams.
"This weekend will be a good test to see where we stand," said USA head coach
Nick Brochu. "It's a good tournament with many good teams, and we will see many of those teams later this season. Getting a head-to-head win against them might be very important when it comes to seeding for the championship in April."
Senior
Tuki Jacobs (Windhoek, Namibia), ranked No. 91 by the first Oracle/ITA Division I Men's National Rankings, leads the Jags going into the spring season. Jacobs went 7-2 in singles this fall, including a victory over No. 57
Ryan Peniston at the ITA All American Championships.
"The guys came back early to practice and get ready for the season," Brochu said. "They are excited to start the season."
