THOMASVILLE, Ga. – University of South Alabama women's tennis sophomore
Alina Zolotareva (Barnaul, Russia) won the A draw final at the Thomasville Invitational Sunday at the Glen Arven Country Club.
Zolotareva defeated her teammate, freshman
Malika Auger-Aliassime (Montreal, Quebec, Canada), 7-6, 6-0.
The Jaguar duo teamed up in doubles, but fell 8-5 to
Laura Ubeda and
Sabrina Schmidt in the semifinals.
"This weekend was a good starting point for both girls," USA assistant coach
Shayann Vaezzadeh said. "It is great validation for Alina with regards to 2-3 weeks of good practice leading to solid output within pressure situations. Both girls are excited to get back on the practice courts and build off this weekend."
South Alabama returns to action in two weeks at the UNLV Classic.
